Here are the important questions to ask your students for creating a good bond with students and speedup the process of understanding the students which would have happened over time. Teaching can become more fruitful when the student-teacher relationship is based on trust and good terms. It’s not just about knowing the name, address, or height of students, but knowing them deeply. You can get to know about students a lot by these questions even if it is the first day of the school year or another week or maybe a year. These questions are important for a reason because every teacher should once ask these questions to their students to enhance their thinking, gain trust, and all.

Questions to ask your students on the first day of school:

  1. What name do you like to be called?
  2. What are things you would really want to learn this school year?
  3. What is that one thing you want us all to know about you?
  4. What was the best part of last month for you and what did you learn?
  5. What was the toughest part of the last week that bothered you?
  6. What are you looking forward to learning about your teachers?
  7. Did you enjoy the class today? How much included do you think you were in class?
  8. Who are your inspirations and why? What helps you feel welcomed?

Questions to ask the students for building good student relationships:

  1. When do you feel you are being listened to and respected?
  2. How often do you feel competent and when?
  3. When do you feel safe and when do you feel unsafe?
  4. When did you last become a leader in a group? How often do you like being a leader? 
  5. What is the one thing you are proud of and love about yourself?
  6. What do you want your teacher to do when you are feeling low?

Questions you can ask students every week:

  1. What made you frustrated and struggle in learning this day?
  2. What are you expecting this week?
  3. What was the kindest thing you did this week?
  4. What change do you want this week and why?

Question to ask the students throughout the year?

  1. Who in the school do you feel you can count upon?
  2. Who believes you can do well?
  3. Who helps you or motivates you when you feel laid back?
  4. When do you feel challenged?
  5. What is your contribution to the school?
  6. What this school has given you this year that you cherish?

Questions you can ask students to understand them better:

  1. What is the thing you don’t like about this class?
  2. What was your first impression about this class, and your teacher?
  3. What is the latest memory you made with your family?
  4. What is your favorite book or comic? Why?
  5. What is your aim in life? What made you dream so?
  6. What makes you excited and happy? Do you like difficulties?
  7. What is your go-to to get relaxed when you get stressed out?
  8. What are the words that can describe you well?

Questions you can ask the students of middle and high school:

  1. What is the place you love to go to most and why?
  2. With whom you are more of yourself?
  3. What is your favorite assignment of all the ones you have got till now?
  4. What advice would you give to yourself if you go back to two years?
  5. What mistakes do you regret doing and don’t want to repeat again? What did you learn?
  6. In case you get bad grades in class, what would you do?
  7. What you don’t like about me and what you don’t want me to change ever in me?
  8. What is the worst thing you have faced? What do you do about it? How do you seek help?
  9. Do you think it is alright to make mistakes? When do you think so? Is accepting mistakes a right act?

1. What are the best parts of virtual classes?

2. What is the drawback of these online classes?

3. What are the changes you want to see in these online learning sessions?

4. When do you do your homework and where?

5. What do you prefer to do when you are free?
6. How much do you like using the internet and how is your internet connectivity?

7. How do you stay connected to your friends and relatives online?

Asking the questions in a polite tone is as important as adding a variety in the type of questions to get to know students more and yet not spoiling your relationship with them. These questions, when you ask them will boost their confidence and interactivity, they will open up with much speed, which ultimately eases up your teaching process and help you to provide them quality education and broaden their thinking horizon.
